The Department of Wildlife Conservation has conducted a special meeting on 26th June 2019 to discuss related issues and matters on proposed Lunugamwehera Elephant Holdings Ground. Professionals, researchers in the sector and Civil Society Groups actively participated in these discussions. The discussions were mainly focused on:
– Required baseline surveys on fauna, flora and Human-Elephant conflict situations;
– Satellite based radio collaring for elephant monitoring:
– Provisions of water (especially during the drought) and establishment of feeding grounds; and
– Required infrastructure (Veterinary and research facilities, structure of fencing etc.).
