Tourist who wanted to enjoy the wonder of nature were hampered due to treacherous trails that take them to see the scenic beauty found within the Sinharaja, Kudawa forest reserve. Therefore, at the request of the Forest Department, ESCAMP stepped forward to support the renovation and development of the Mulawella, Nawadagaha and Halmandiya Dola nature trails.
Forester Mr. Wattegama of the Forest Department in Sinharaja, Kudawa says that, “The rehabilitation of trails enables visitors to walk in the forest without being injured due to safety improvements. The provision of hand rails helps even elderly people to follow the trails in hilly areas and enjoy the beauty of nature. The new wooden bridges provide easy access across rolling streams of water. The funds spent for these developments are really worthwhile because the benefits gained are priceless,” he concludes.
Development of 3 km of the Mulawella Nature Trail involved the construction of a wooden bridge, a resting point including a wooden hut, 1 km of steps, 500 metres of hand rails and safety deck at the peak point.
